Like many people across the world, you might be working from home right now! I have been working from home for several years now and I love it. Luckily, I don’t have to manage kids at home at the same time. I realize that is an extra challenge. But, here are some of my tips for how I stay motivated and successfully work from home.

Working from Home or Working Remotely?

These are two phrases that mean to work outside of a main office. Working from home means you are working from your house where you live. Working remotely has a much more general meaning. You could be working from a co-working space, a cafe, or even a different country!

Tip 1: Get Dressed!

When I work from home I video chat with students from around the world. Therefore, every morning I make sure I am dressed and look professional. I think this is a good tip for everyone working from home! Do not work in your pyjamas! This will make you feel like it’s time to relax. By looking professional you will feel more motivated to work!

Tip 2: Set Boundaries

Even though you are at home, you need to act like you are in an office. That means starting work at a certain and finishing working at a certain time. It’s okay to take breaks but you should set hours to work and stick to it!

Tip 3: A Clear Workspace

If you are suddenly working from home it can be hard to create an office or dedicated work space. You might be working from your dining room table! That’s okay! But still, it should be cleared at the end of every work day. That means clearing all paper, putting away all tools, and cleaning any garbage. These actions will help you feel accomplished and like it’s the end of a work day. And, this way you start every work day with a clear space.

I hope these tips are helpful! Good luck!
